Royal Palm Turkey

Royal Palm Turkey is a visually stunning heritage breed known for its striking plumage and ornamental appeal. Originally developed in the United States in the early 20th century, this breed was created by crossing Black, Bronze, Narragansett, and White turkeys. The result is a small to medium-sized bird with an eye-catching appearance and a calm, active personality.

Royal Palms are easily recognized by their bright white feathers accented with sharply defined bands of metallic black on the edges of their tail and wings. Their bold black-and-white coloring, combined with a red to bluish-white head and light-colored legs, makes them one of the most attractive turkey breeds in the world. Because of their elegant look, they are often favored for ornamental and exhibition purposes.

Unlike many larger turkey breeds, Royal Palms are not primarily raised for meat production. Toms typically weigh around 16 to 22 pounds, and hens average 10 to 12 pounds. However, they do produce lean, flavorful meat and are a good fit for small farms or homesteads looking to maintain heritage lines while enjoying modest meat yields.

Royal Palms are active foragers and do best in free-range environments where they can explore and supplement their diet naturally. They are alert, friendly, and relatively easy to handle, making them a great choice for small-scale poultry keepers and backyard flocks. Hens are good mothers and will often go broody, making this breed well-suited to sustainable and self-sufficient farming practices.

As a recognized heritage breed by the American Poultry Association, the Royal Palm Turkey also contributes to the preservation of genetic diversity. Whether you’re raising them for conservation, display, or light meat production, the Royal Palm is a delightful and elegant addition to any flock.
